10 Inch 3 HP Single-Phase 220V Left-Tilt - Grizzly G1023SL Table Saw Description

3 H.P. single-phase, 220V motor; 4 inch dust port included; Cutting capacity: 8 inch left and 26 inch right of blade; Triple V-belt drive. Built with the same heavy steel cabinet and cast iron table as the extremely popular Model G1023S, this left-tilting saw became an instant hit when introduced last year. Just as with the G1023S, the motor is 3HP, single-phase, 220V and has a triple-belt pulley. The blade splitter has been redesigned from that of the G1023S for even easier adjustments, and the accurate and dependable Shop Fox Classic fence also comes as standard equipment.

Summary: just stop reading these damn reviews !
listen, I have been a cabinetmaker / installer for fourteen years. I am currently building & setting up my own small shop. have a lot invested. want the right tools!!! read every review. rode around looking at contractor saws in the same price range.evaluated every option.finaly bit and ordered a grizzly.
(sight unseen)! my advice to you. SHIPPING! product packaging could improve.shipped in a cardboard box strapped to a small pallet with plastic straps. hopefully you luck out like me. no dents, no dings, no problem. if so you will have an unbeliveable saw for the money. high quality, accurate, heavy duty. listen im a layman I don't care about tolerances and .000 crap.a saw should just feel right. you know what I mean? this one does. and if your debating between left and right tilt. go left. adds versitility not to mention the safety factor. (the wife's all about that) all in all very good tool for the money!

Summary: A Cabinet Saw Worthy of Your Money
I'm just your everyday, run of the mill small home-shop woodworker. I needed to upgrade my outdated and worn out contractor saw with something more robust. I'm not one for laying down a lot of money without doing my homework, so I did some extensive research on cabinet saws. Because the Chairwoman of the Home Appropriations Committee scrutinizes all of my woodworking purchases, I needed to make a smart choice. Someone once said, "My second table saw should have been my first", and that was the catch phrase I held to when making this decision. I wanted to get it right the first time.

I was fortunate enough to be able to pick up the saw at the loading dock and haul it home on my own. With a little help from my dad and a normal dolly, we were able to easily get it out of my truck and into the garage. The packaging was intact, which was a pleasant surprise after reading the many reviews that had complaints about the condition of the box after delivery.

We got her up on the heavy-duty Shop Fox mobile base with ease by tilting the saw enough to slide one side of the mobile base under it. Then we tilted it towards the opposite side and slide the other half of the mobile base underneath and connected the two halves of the base.

Cleaning the packing grease was time consuming, but straight forward. I was completely blown away by the mirror finish the saw's top had! Note I did not say, "mirror like", because it truly was a "mirror" finish! We then affixed a power plug. The extension tables installed without any trouble. I then began the normally labor intensive process of truing the blade and table. I was expecting to spend the rest of the day on this process, but every aspect of the saw's alignment was dead-balls on... right out of the box!!!

Hitting the power button, she powered up without hesitation. The sweet hum that followed was such a wonderful sound... second only to the first cry of a newborn baby! I shut her down, stood a nickel on the table on end then powered her up again. It stood there motionless like GEN Stonewall Jackson.

I'm using an Incra TSLS fence system, which is compatible with the G1023SL with one notable exception. The TSLS back rail doesn't clear the G1023SL's splitter/blade guard rod without modifying the guard attachment or cutting the TSLS rail in half. Needless to say, I won't be cutting the rail, so I'm looking to get Beisemeyer's snap-in splitter. I've since cut many pieces of oak and maple with a WWII blade and I'm not even sure a hot knife goes through butter as smoothly! My wife called me out by saying, "Now the only reason your cuts will be bad will be from operator error." She couldn't have said it better.

PROS: - The G1023SL is a high-end cabinet saw with an entry-level price.
- The fit and finish are impeccable (did I mention the table top shines like chrome!?).
- Easy access to the motor.
- Alignment was unbelievably accurate out of the box.
* Grizzly's customer support! They were extremely helpful with the many "what if" and "what about" phone calls I made before I bought this saw.

CONS: - As noted, the splitter/blade guard rod interferes with my fence rail.
- Too much packing grease (but I know it's a necessary evil).

I could not have made a more sensible or financially responsible choice than the G1023SL! My table saw needs are far and away exceeded by the G1023SL's performance. You can spend more for a Delta, Jet or Powermatic cabinet saw, but the only difference will be less money in your bank account.

Summary: A First Class Machine.
I considered the Delta Unisaw, the similar Jet, the Powermatic 66, the other Grizzly saws, and others and decided that this saw was simply the best, not just for the money. There are now two in the family. Both of us are delighted. These are also mighty handsome machines.

There is no substitute for the power and rigidity and mass of a machine like this.

Expect to spend some pleasant time with a file or stone softening sharp edges and corners on the table and on the miter guage. Set it up carefully. Buy a good blade. Then expect great performance.

Summary: Great saw
I didn't purchase mine through amazon but still got it new. I've had it now for about 3 months.

First off, it comes covered with cosmolene so be ready for cleaning that stuff. Manual wasn't that great but whose are? No damage to stuff but packaging was cheap. Assembly took me sometime due to cleaning and not being very experienced at assembling table saws. This being my second saw with my first being a contractors saw, it was a challenge.

I couldn't get one of my wings to get perfectly flush with the table. But it's only off by a "hair" so I don't think thats much of a big deal.

My saw blade, after assembly, was touching the dust deflector. I read the manual and used the arbor adjusting method to get it off. That seemed to do the trick but I hope I'm not doing anything stupid.

The gaurd and splitter I don't like much and have ordered an aftermarket one. The fence is pretty cool but I may end up getting something else in the future. The measuring tape that came with it for the fence I replaced with a starret for better accuracy.

All in all a good saw in my opinion. I moved up from 1hp to 3hp and I'm not going back! It runs very smooth with no vibrations (compared to what I had at least). Starts and stops well. I was going to get the Delta Hybird and I'm glad I didn't because the extra HP makes a big difference - IMHO. You can cut hardwoods with more assurance. Ripping is Great! I'm pretty satisfied so far
